Routine Wellness Exams

Our routine wellness exam includes:

  • A review of your medical and eye history
  • Neurological—testing of your pupils, eye movement, and visual field (peripheral vision)
  • Eye muscles—muscle balance, eye teamwork
  • Eye pressure—this is primarily a test for glaucoma
  • Refractive state (your prescription)
  • External structures—lids, lashes, tear system
  • Anterior structures—the front end of your eye (where cataracts occur)
  • Posterior structures—the retina and optic nerve (where macular degeneration and glaucoma occur)
  • A diagnosis and treatment plan for any vision problems.

Here is sampling of the technology that we will use during your eye exam:

  • Exam writer and escript—this is an advanced software package that we use to organize and store all of your ophthalmic records. We can even transmit your drug prescription directly to your drugstore so it can be ready when you arrive.
  • Rebound tonometry—finally, a way to accurately check eye pressure without the use of numbing medicine or that awful air puff!
  • Optomap retinal imaging—this instrument uses laser light to give up to a 200-degree image of the retina which almost always results in no dilation for routine exams.

  • Digital retinal imaging—this is a high resolution digital photo that we use to document retinal and optic nerve conditions.

  • OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)—this instrument uses light to give us an extremely magnified image of the optic nerve and retina. This helps us to diagnose glaucoma, macular degeneration, and many other diseases of the eye.

  • 3-D Wave—this amazing machine gives us four valuable measurements: two different measurements of your prescription, and two different measurements about the shape of your eyes.
